I spoke to a woman today who told me she had grounded her 15 year old son for one month for smoking pot. She also, took away his phone and play station. Then she told his 15 year old girl friend she was no longer welcome in their home because the girl was an active pot user.
The boy had been hanging out with some friends who were drug users and started smoking pot with them. During school the boy plays football and baseball, but during spring break started hanging with his friends and somewhere along the way Mariguanna had showed up in his life. “He’s a good kid” she said but I wanted to nip this in the bud right away. When he’s playing sports he’s fine. He doesn’t have time to hang out with druggy kids. Between sports and school he’s busy. But I just don’t want to see it started” she said. “When his girlfriend came over I drug tested her” She showed up positive for marijuana and I told her she had to leave, was no longer welcome in our home and that I didn’t want my son going out with her any more”
You mean you drug tested her right there.? “Yep. I made her pee in a cup and tested her right in the bathroom. She knew I meant business. All of his friends now call me the “drug testing mom”, but they know I care. But I really don’t want my 15 year old boy going down that path.”

Did her son rebel? “No he knows I love him. We don’t have a power struggle over this. He knows.
Wow. That mom deserves mother of the year award. What do you think? Pretty courageous huh? I wonder if more parents used this approach , if it would cut down on teenage drug use? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

City of Boulder is correct to tax Bars, Party permits, to curb drunken excess

Erika Stutzman the editor of the Daily Camera is young and inexperienced. Her editorial criticizing the Boulder city councils considering taxing bars for late night openings and charging party fees for big college parties shows just how young she is. When i say young, I mean MZ Stutzman is immature, not seasoned , not wise to the ways of the world. And the ways of the world on University hill since the mid 1990′s have been drunken, rioting, fighting, raping debauchery when the bars let out in the Spring or fall.
I have have to pay for extra cops to stand outside of Hill bars when the drunk kids come out and start fighting. I also had to pay for last weeks riot. I think the bars and Party givers should pay for extra police to protect me from them.
Stutzman also blindly noted that last weeks party and murder were not connected. Nonsense. Everyone was drunk up there last Friday night. When this trial concludes, I think we will find that all three involved in the murder were drunk and had attended the riot. They were all fueled for murder.
It had to take this tragedy for the city council to start acting like city parents and reel the college kids, their bars and partys in. The University certainly won’t do it.
Last Week LSU became newsworthy because of the school and cities commitment to high academic standards.

My position and the position of Boulder Channel 1 news is very simple: The Homeless Shelter and warming centers should be open in the daytime when the temperatures are 20 degrees and lower. I want the city to hold a homeless summit to this effect. I want any city moneys going to the homeless shelter to include the above in their contract. They must be made to open and held accountable

Max and Neil are relatively new to working with the homeless. We don't travel in the same circles. Work with the homeless does not all happen at the Shelter or the Carriage house, I assure you. I have been homeless on the streets of Boulder so has Rob. We both more than qualify to address any of these hard issues. (way before Max and Neil showed up)

But all of that is moot. It cannot be allowed to have people freeze during the day in Boulder. Neil and max are invited to join us old timers in that struggle.

Some things you don’t know about me.
1. I once scored 147 on the MENSA test which I took live on my TV show . It was scored by two MENSA officials in 1992 on Jann Scott Tonight on Channel 36.
2. I grew up country with a little bit rock n roll. Love country western, country, western, bluegrass and hill billy music.
3. I raced stock cars all over the south west on dirt for 7 years so I am a car guy. I can build em from the ground up. I reviewed new cars on TV and print since 1968.
4. I can read 6000 words per minute and at one time read 20 books a week and interviewed the authors on live radio.
5. I drove over the road trucks for four years to all the lower 48 states. Am a CB talker, recorded hours of stories and jokes.
6. I have appeared on CNN, MTV, CBS evening news, NBC nightly news as a guest. I worked for MTV and NBC.
7. I was a wild child and ran around with country boys and girls in my teens. “You can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy”.
8. I owned motor cycles as a teen ager. They included a new 1963 Ducati Diana RT, a new twin carb 1964 750 Norton and a classic 1937 Harley Davidson 1200 police bike re pleat with siren and lights.
9. I worked for the state department and CIA illegally in England as an American Journalist spy for a foreign paper International times. I was directly involved with interdicting letter bombs being sent to US senators in the early 1970′s. I also had immunity from arrest and prosecution.
10. I have been robbed at gunpoint, kidnapped, and shot at by terrorists.
11. I am a Christian and go to church on Sunday and yep Jesus is who he says he is. I’m a believer.

The Webster brothers lived across the field in a non electric wood heated house

Dear internet,
I grew up in a small New England country town where there were more dairy cows than people. Population 3,000 in 1955. 5,700 cows. A New England town is small, tidy, old and most of our dairy pastures were outlined with stone walls. My town was established in 1659 exactly 200 years before Boulder. It had a main street lined with colonial homes. Near the Mayflower Inn was a large field where Washington’s Amry had a winter encampment. George Washington himself spent the winter at the May Flower.
I grew up about a mile outside of town on West Main street or rural route 47 also known as Washington road. General Washington’s army marched down our road and had maneuvers across the street from my house.
Sitting way back in the field was a big green house. It was accessible by Linden Lane and sat by itself though now it was surrounded by some post war homes. The Webster brothers all confirmed bachelors lived there. Fred was 82 born 1873 Jim 78 born 1877 and George 63 born 1892 had lived in the house since birth. They were Yankees all. Their ancestors had fought with the blue coats against the crown. George was the only one who could read or write. He had been in WWI and fought in France. The other two brothers had not traveled further than 50 miles from our town. They had never been to Boston nor New York. They didn’t have running water, electricity or insulation on their walls. Their wooden floors were unvarnished and rough. In the kitchen was a wooden cook stove. The living room had a big pot belly stove.
Outside the back door was a hand well pump for water. Further from the house was an outhouse. They had oil lamps for light, and no motor vehicle. It wouldn’t have done them any good because none of them could drive. They had an old horse but it died several years before. So they walked or peddled a bike as did many of my 19th century neighbors.
The Webster brothers were the local grave diggers. They actually dug graves by hand with a pick and shovel.
Not far from my house was the local cemetery which had graves 100′s of years old. The Websters were the care takers. I used to see them every day on my way to school. They smelled bad too since they didn’t bath much. They all wore blue denim work shirts and dungarees and those funny old flat caps that you see in turn of the century photos. They also smoked corn cob pipes.
They kept to themselves mostly but whenever I or my friends talked to them they were always friendly. They spoke in thick country accents so it was hard to understand them. But on some summer evenings we would go over to visit them , sit outside and they would spin yarns of life in the country back in the old days. (the late 1800s and early 1900s)
One such tale was a story of “green rabbits” which lived in the near by fields and only came out at night. At nine years old I believed every word of it , but I never did get a glimpse of “them green rabbits”. But according to the story they ate from the Websters garden at night and had very big paws.
The Websters were the last of a New England long gone to me. They were simple 19 century men living their days in the mid 20th century and they didn’t see any reason to join.

John showed up at the club every day at noon. He was an affable good natured ole guy just happy to be alive. I got to know him in the 1990s. He was on a mission to get people to quit smoking by pulling an oxygen bottle around with him . He’d often say “I survived Pearl Harbor one first wave landing and 2 second wave landings in the war in the pacific, but cigarettes are what killed me.

But John was a real life Boulder war hero. He often wore his hat “Peal Harbor survivor” He was a US Marine stationed at Hickham field on December 7 1941.
“I was just a kid. 135 1bs. 18 years old when the Japanese started bombing. I literally got blown out of my bunk. When I went outside I could see the meatballs on the zeros as the flew over. We knew instantly what was happening. There wasn’t much I could do except keep my head down. The Zeros were all over the place bombing and strafing everything. Everything was burning and destroyed. We Marines were taught to keep down during shelling and bombings which is exactly what I did. But I survived it. There was no fighting back. They surprised us and the first things they hit were our gun emplacements. Even so, running out on to an airfield during a Zero bombing strafing raid is suicide. I lived to fight another day.”

John was at Guadalcanal for one month. He didn’t like to talk about it except to say It was everything you ever read about and more.
“I survived a first wave landing there and was not wounded. It is a miracle that I never got hit. You know we lost 35% of our guys on the first landing. Mostly everyone else was wounded. I don’t know how I escaped. I guess the good Lord was with me.”

He survived Second Wave landings on New Britain Island and Tarawa.
“No I never got wounded and I never got sick. A lot of guys did. Between malaria and dysentery and the Japs trying to kill us we had over 65% casualty rate on those islands. I guess it was my age. I had just turned 18 so my immune system must have been pretty strong, maybe that and growing up on a farm here in Boulder”
Those landing were pretty bad. You just had to keep your head down, make your way up the beach and try to find some cover. Then we could get a position in the jungle so we could fight. Once we established a beach head, the Japanese didn’t stand the chance, but you couldn’t tell them that. But we knew. They had the entire United states Marine Corp landing on their islands and we weren’t going to leave until we occupied them. That’s what they didn’t understand. They were good fighters and dedicated, but we were better. We had an armada of ships and the wherewithal to out bomb and out last them….. and we out fought them man to man……so much for being a Samari. A lot of them were you know. They’d come at us with their swords….they were no match. We were Marines…we out Samaried them. They didn’t expect it. They thought we were weak and couldn’t fight. But they didn’t know what a Marine was. They soon found out.
I think history will find that US Marines in the pacific will go down as the greatest warrior class in history.”
John died of emphysema in 1994. Todays post is for him and all Marines who fought in the pacific and who are fighting today in bitter battles in Afghanistan.

Thanksgiving Thursday Nov. 25 1999 The front page of Boulder Daily Camera day read: Talk show Host Jann Scott thrown off CATV 54 . It is by no accident that Ward Churchill appeals process was on todays front page of the Camera on Thanksgiving day 2010 exactly 11 years later. I appeared on a first amendment related story in 1999 which went on for 7 months. I eventually won my fight for free speech. But On that day I was to have 3 native American Indian chiefs on my Jann Scott Live show. We were all denied access. I had to fight for free speech rights again in Boulder Between 2006 and 2009. I was again to win a hard bitter fought struggle with “the man” The white man.

It is no mistake that todays paper is about Ward Churchill a Native American Indian professor at CU who has been violated by the White man who murdered his people at Wounded Knee. It is no co incidence that the city of Boulder sent 100s of troops to Sand Creek in the 1880s to murder Innocent Indian women and children on Colorados Eastern Plains. Yes that’s right peace loving happiest city in America has a dark past. Boulderites are the murderers of Sand Creek and we as a community have as of yet made reparations or even an apology to those Indians. CU was involved in that massacre as well just like CU is involved in the illegal firing of their only Indian professor who publicly shamed white people for their genocide world wide.

What the hell is the matter with them. ?? Is it that the Heritage of the board of regents from CU are white European protestant

It’s almost as though I knew him. Like he was a friend. There was much talk about president Kennedy not just at my house, but the whole world was obsessed with Camelot. So when he was assassinated, it was truly quite an upsetting moment in my life; in all of our lives. I had returned home from New York city where I had spent my 16th year and I was back at Woodbury high School a year behind. I was a Junior , not a senior. I also had to make up some sophomore classes, so I was buSy. But I was popular especially since I had lived in the city and this was important.
On this morning I was in biology class in a lab dissecting a frog with my lab mate Cynthia Swainback. We were always getting in trouble. She paid less attention to details than I did , so we had no fucking idea how to fillet this frog. Also, Cynthia had this habit of unbuttoning her shirt while we were in lab, so I would stare at her breasts. I had a nice girl friend so I tried not to react to her. But she was funny and would always brush against me. She’d say things like, ” if you can unbutton my blouse with that ruler, I’ll let you do what you want to me. Being dexterous I would always have her top off in about 30 seconds. Her friends thought this was fun and everybody thought were were really fucking crazy. The teacher Mr Wheaton would say things like;” Miss Swainback, would you please keep your clothes on in lab, what if we have a fire drill”. and” Mr Scott can’t you wait til after school for your escapades?”
Well, no I couldn’t , I had to work and I had a girl friend . So the thing with Cynthia was flirting only….sort of. She also had the shortest skirt at school and was routinely sent home for a wardrobe change. Actually, all of the girls were. It was 1963. Below is a list of the top 100 pop hits . At around 11″00 am At Mr. Wheaton came in and announced : ” May I have your attention please. We felt it was important to tell you this. It is a grave situation. We will keep you informed. But for now class is canceled. Would you please put your lab equipment away.”

What.? He left the room and a few minutes later came back in and announced. ” It has been announced on CBS news on Television that the president is dead. I saw it my self on TV. Class and Schoo lis cancelled. You can go home. Busses will be arriving soon to take you. We have called your parents. Those of you with cars should go home.”

What the hell did he say ?? I asked. I was bewildered. I looked over Cynthia, Betsy Cushman and another girl were sobbing. I walked out in the halls people were in shock. Some were laughing others crying…..hysteria was beginning to take over the school. Mr Lovecraft came over to some of us and said” try to calm down.” What? I’m calm. He said no you;re laughing hysterically…sit down for a minute” ( I was coming apart right then and there. As I walked through the halls everyone was crying, teachers, students, secretaries…………I’d never seen such a show of emotion…..it just wasn’t done. My best friend Richard came over to me and said ” This calls for a drink.” Oh Christ I said. You are right. But I really didn’t drink much. Cynthia over heard him and said can I come with you. I said sure and we all walked out of school jumped into my 1963 Ford Farlane, went to my house, got a bottle of Bells 12 year Scotch 3 glasses , some ice and went and parked in a field and had a few drinks. Then we went home.

It was a horrible next three days. TV was blacked out., Only the Kennedy news and his funeral was broadcast. I actually saw Lee Harvey Oswald shot on Live TV. TV was black and white and there were only 3 channels. Radio was blacked out. No music. It was worse than the days following 911. My girlfriend Andy Warren lived across the field from my house, but her parents wouldn’t let us see each other during the days of mourning. To make matters worse ,my fathers brother had a heart attack and died in the middle of all this.This was definitely the day the dream died. November 22, 1963.

After November, the Beatles became enormous and it was a wild American swing back. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore. I spent most days with Andy after school. Both of our grades began to fall. Both parents tried to talk to us about Kennedy’s death. We had friends who were already in Vietnam. They were coming back to high school in uniforms talking about this far off place in Indo China. Where? A place where Buddhist monks poured gasoline over themselves. By the time spring had come, I was breaking down. I bought a new Ducati motor cycle I planned on killing my self with it…… just like my hero T E Lawrence or Peter o’toole ( Lawrence of Arabia) In fact 4 of my friends died that summer in drunk driving car wrecks.

I started drinking more. But alcohol did not agree with me. Andy and I had broken up in June. My family life was a disaster. I started seeing a shrink in the summer of 1964, but I was depressed and lost. I went to the Forum School where I rested and studied, but when the autumn came I was totally out of control. By December I was admitted to the New Town State mental hospital witb a complete nervous break down and acute alcoholism. I was just 18 years old. President Johnson had announced an increase of troops to SE Asia. I was so fucked.

How the women of NPR brought down an American institution.

I didn’t used to care or watch much Fox News, though I did find Bill O’Reilly amusing on occasion. The difference for me of course is that I have spent my life on Radio and television and I have seen what is happening at NPR before. But this is different. It is an American media train wreck played out on the world wide stage. It is the battle of good vs evil. It is a battle of wills and it is a battle of the sexes.

The later is the most important right now. It is Bill ORielly and Juan Williams on Fox vs Vivian Schiller and her gal pals at NPR: Koke Roberts, Nina totenberg, Dana Rehim, Anna Christopher, Terry Gross and the whole lot. This is a public media war being fought by the men and women at Fox News against the all girl show at NPR. Guess who’s winning.? NPR sure isn’t.

Vivian Schiller, NPRs CEO was ambushed yesterday by a Fox news reporter who she tried to duck and run from. She acted like a corporate criminal. Her other appearances on TV this week were just as horrible. Which made me think: ” Oh Jesus Christ, Just what the hell is going on down there at NPR, it’s time to turn the place upside down.” And that’s not just happening by me, it is happening by a lot of people all over the world most noteably the US congress.

Here is what I found and what needs to happen to keep NPR from going down. NPR is media culture run by hardened leftist feminists who are intolerant of strong males. Fox on the other hand has plenty of strong men and women on air.

NPR has come under ridicule by black female journalists who portray NPR as racist and all white. NPR has been unable to control the spin and every time they try they are no match for Fox News. They look like idiots when discussed by O’Reilly and Williams. NPR is getting killed by popular culture and it ain’t over yet. NPR is ill equipped for this kind of battle. Those snobby girl journalists at NPR are absolutely no match for the seasoned on air gun fighters at Fox. Politics aside.

I don’t think NPR’s loyal fan base will carry them in the US congress this time. So in order to save NPR, Vivian Schiller has to go. She wasn’t that important to begin with, but she is the face of a callous, thoughtless, unjust executive out to get black people . NPR needs another face on this.

It sure as hell isn’t Anna Christopher who whipped Juan Williams some more yesterday.

What these women don’t get and will probably never get is that they are being portrayed as racist white southern Jim crow women with a northern Washington upper class penchant. It is all unsaid of course. But black women reporters know who they are and they have been blogging about their former masters. NPR fired all of the black reporters. This is a black white thing amongst these women. It is a race issue. It is a male female issue too. And the deeper you look the uglier it gets for NPR.

So how am I supposed listen to weekend edition or Wait Wait without thinking of these crazy incompetent feminists who fucked up an American institution because they hate strong educated fearless black men. And that’s really what this is about.

It is time for the board at NPR to shake the place up or they will go down with the ship and take the American people with them. This episode could well be the end of the left wing of the Democrat party in America too. Schiller and her gal pals will most assuredly effect the national election in a few days, handing many seats to their arch rivals the Republicans. Another reason for the board to fire them. But Vivian Schillers days at NPR are over. Just that she doesn’t have a 2 million dollar job waiting for her. She has a hole to crawl into.

Best and Worst Morning Denver News TV shows

Dear Internet,
I often do a best or worst media awards show each year. Since all of the Best of awards are really marketing schemes to sell advertising, heres my take on whats good and what’s crap. This just concerns local TV news out of Denver . First of all I don’t watch cable news any more, so this is only about broadcast news.

1. KWGN Channel 2 has the best all around morning news. What I like about it are their features and interviews which are mostly network cut aways, but they are interesting and that gives Channel 2 an edge. They do the same conflict” bleeds it leads” as everybody else but they mix it up with features. Tom Greene is good. The other one isn’t too bright. The local writing for the anchors sucks, but some of the reporters are good. The wide coverage is the best.The weather reports suck and who cares about traffic. Too bad Channel 2 does not have a network news feed. But they really do local news. good Job.

After Channel 2 everyone else is a far, very far second. Why? Because , they beat CONFLICT, DEATH, MURDER, news to death and they are fucking insult.

2. Gary Shapiro and Kyle Dyer on Channel 9 morning news are the most genuine. Kyle of course is adorable. They do a competent job considering what and who they work for and the crap they are given to read.

3. Channel 7′s Mitch Jelniker is funny. Hey’s kind of an asshole, but he gets away with it. And whoever his co-anchor is has to be an unwitting foil.

4. Channel 4. Who?

5. Channel 31 Fox ……Oh my god. the Chick is very cute, but very very dumb. The skin head guy looks like he’s ready to slit his wrists all of the time………..which makes the news cast painfully funny.

6. Boulder’s News Team Boulder on Channel 63 is the worst possible crap the University of Colorado could show case. The have a terrible broadcast journalism program.

Know what I really like?? It’s BBC news on on channel 6 and channel 12……….Well, ok, if you are interested in weather from Botswana.

You know I am just so sick of the Godamn News, I am going to have to do something about it. We tried a daily news cast on Boulder channel 1, but the little punk we hired wanted to turn our news into the same old shit. So she was gone. Although we do an occasional news which will be my model.

Problems when Boulder Street alcoholics make it unsafe for a local non-profit

Dear Internet
Over the past few weeks I have written about what happens when do gooders get over run by street alcoholics. In their naive attempt to help them, these do gooder have caused a dangerous situation. That has happened at Boulder One Foundation which holds 12 step meetings of all kinds for all sorts of Boulderites who are looking for support. Boulder one is located out in the industrial zone of Western Avenue near Ball Aerospace on East Arapahoe avenue here in Boulder.

One of the mistakes they have made over the past decade is they let hardened street alcoholics camp in and out side of their facility. With no supervision these street pirates have, robbed, stolen, broken into neighboring business, vandalized the facility, dealt drugs, run off unsuspecting new members, caused unsanitary conditions inside, and generally been a menace. It is unbelievable that the board of directors have let this go on. They do it of course in the belief that they may actually be able to help this hard core population. That couldn’t be further from the truth. What has happened is that Boulder One foundation has become unsafe at night for anyone unsuspecting. It is especially dangerous for women coming in alone at night or worse for children. No one is around at night when most of the evil deeds take place. In the morning these street pirates come into the facility at 7:00 am when it opens. They are treated like MASCOTS, patted on the back, given a few bucks so they can go out and drink and drug some more. Worse STILL, they victimize people who are trying to get help. I equate them to rapists who con the staff in the daylight hours who terrorize the streets at night.

Some of these hard core sit out AT THE PICNIC TABLES AT BOULDER ONE at night drinking or taking drugs and when some one comes in to ask about serviceS they are verbally or physically pounced upon and driven off. I have personally witnessed this. When I brought up my concerns to their Chair, he told me to buzz off and that he “refused to legislate behavior.” What??!! Today he told me to stop complaining. He apparently does not know me well ENOUGH. once i sink my teeth into an issue of human injustice I am not likely to quit.

So, what I have done is contact the police for some community policing of the public areas of this facility. Boulder one chair Chris balked at it calling it using a bully pulpit. He wants to protect the rights of these people who work the system where ever they go, but he denies the rights of the vulnerable.

The Boulder police department told me they run into this scenario all of the time. What?? Yep. In order for the police to put a stop to hard core alcoholics over running a neighborhood, they have to get what is called an affidavit of Trespass signed by the lease hold of every business victimized by these people. Many business’s resist until the situation becomes unbearable as it did recently at the harvest House and Safe-way shopping center, when that private property became a huge homeless drinking camp.

Since Boulder One refused to co operate with me and the police, I went to all of the neighbors and got the affidavits filled out myself. I also filled out a personal complaint that Boulder One was allowing street alcoholics to camp outside during closing hours. That hasn’t made me real popular with the Boulder one board or the drug dealers they allow to do business, but I don’t really give a fuck. This is when one person can make a difference, when a community will allow crime to go on in the neighborhood. Don’t get me wrong here now. I am not talking about out of work homeless citizens who want a hand up. I am talking about harden street alcoholics who will rob , steal or rape their way into your life. People who will rip you off anyway they can.

Dear Internet,
We are starting a daily newscast on Boulder Channel 1 today. It will be sent to social media and we shall see. Our new news person Natalie Wood will be out and about the city every day covering local stories. But the mainstay of our news centers around stories that local and national news rarely cover: Science, technology, medicine, famine, environment, economy, education, human culture. Add to that local stories we deem important. We have a policy of non-violence reporting, including wars, car accidents, murders, fires, politics and the like.

Over the past ten years Boulder Channel 1 news has been distributed world wide with the adage “We bring you Boulder, we bring you the world.” Our viewer ship is an online audience, not traditional TV. So what does that mean? Well, viewers online are younger… 18-34 are 80 %. 35 to 90 is everyone else, including most readers of My Life in Boulder.

I personally feel a disconnect to the Twitter Facebook Billions of “kids under 30, but I suppose that doesn’t matter. My friend Bob Greenlee ran KBCO for years. Bob is a conservative Republican. KBCO is a bastion of liberal music and enormously sucessful. Richard Ray who hosted mornings on KBCO helped me when I first started in talk radio in the late 1980′s. He used to say, radio is all about perception. “What you perceive it to be” is what makes a radio station a success. It is all an illusion. Same is true with TV and social media, and our news.

Quite frankly, I am sick of the news and had all of my cable news disconnected. The only TV news i watch is NBC, CBS, ABC overnight news between 3:00 am and 5:00 am. I also watch BBC TV news and C-Span. But that is it.

Twitter : the creeped out side: censorship; leftist hatred during the boulder fire

All of the twitter people are praising themselves over this social media involvement with spreading information on the boulder fire at four mile canyon. At first I experienced much of the same. And then it changed. I witnessed a violent pack mentality that took place. I have seen this before with young angry pot smoking leftists who practice censorship and intolerance at their core.

This is a very dangerous way of being. Some of the e-mails I got were personal attacks on me and my company. When I responded they projected all of their hate on to me.

What worries me about the Twitter movement is that the company has a policy of wanting to effect political power world wide. This is also true with Facebook. I mean, they have stated it in so many words. These two companies are run by 26 year olds who have a "one world view" as do many of the users of both. They happen to be educated, white, and leftist and want to control the world. Kind of a new fascism.

Quite frankly, their are some real shit heads on Twitter from Boulder. If you check @jannscott you'll find three very nasty kids....two girls and a guy.... who personify hate, control, revenge.

I ran into a former Sheriffs department deputy and his friends who target people they don't like. In some ways twitter is about bullying, targeting and harassment. Another person wrote about this very same topic a few days ago while reading #boulderfire and watching the hate build.

I plan on doing some TV shows on this and addressing the people who pulled this crap and calling them out on Mass Media....... When movements like this move from business to politics to taking over the world that's where I step in and say something.

When the fire broke out I was hiking up there and got run off the mountain by smoke, ash, embers etc.

then went to work.......... news editor ron baird was llready at it posting news when i arrived at our BC1 office.....

. at 12:30, turned on the scanner...started monitoring Red 1, Green, Blue, Fire and AIR.

Boulder channel 1 broke the following news:

reverse 911 failure...... so I called command...dispatch, city pio and came up with a plan to use social media via Boulder Channel 1 to get word out to foot hill homes to evacuate , that reverse 911 was down.

we started posting Boulder channel 1 news headlines on Twitter immediately and that spread to the top tweet for #boulderfire.( and it still is).... I then started getting phone calls and emails from citizens who were stranded on Sunshine canyon and Sugar loaf....

..... "we didn't receive a reverse 911" and 911 is busy so I'm calling you.

after 4:00 everybody and their brother was on twitter. But when we started.........we were the first. first to tweet, first in news..first to react.

by 4 everyone was evacuated...........twitter wnt down......and we did our job.

we did get one story wrong..... fatality.......which we had confirmed by two sources...so we apologized for that. ( this one still may unfortunately come true in days, weeks or months to come.) Some of my headline were a bit over the top...but i wnate d people who didn't realize to get the hell out.

I did take some heat for reporting ..from some twitter kids..who were in shock that we had moved in and took over their play ground for some serious business........but we knew we had it right and lives were at stake.

Denver Police Brutality. It ain’t over.Mayor Hickenlooper and Denver PD chief Whitman do not get it

Dear Internet,
I am in total disbelief at the remarks of John Hickenlooper and Denver police chief Jerry Whitman. Their remarks yesterday backing the police department and minimalizing the dramatic increase of police brutality cases is shocking. The public continues to be infuriated by them. “we back and support our officers 100%” it is not the time. It is time to be critical and to make we will not tolerate this kind of brutality anymore. It is not the time to blame an independent report which finds rampant brutality in Denver PD. It is time to fess up. It is time to say how truly disappointed you are in the Denver PD. it is not the time for the Police Union to play the victim card. They are not victims. We are. It is not time to blame blogs and talk radio and the news for staying on this story. It is time to admit the Denver police department is one screwed is mess.

To re-cap: Video has surfaced showing Denver PD beating citizens Rodney King style in multiple instances. The department also beat to death a jail inmate in the booking area. Hearings show that the Denver PD is way out of control. Now the mayor and police chief are denying it all…along with police attorney. The public safety director Ron Herra stepped down yesterday under huge public pressure. Why did he step down?? because he is a jerk and talked like a gangster about the citizens who were beaten by Denver cops. Hick and Whitman both back these thugs. It is time for Jerry Whitman to get the hell out of Dodge. He has to go. As far as I’m concerned Hickenlooper needs to resign as mayor and drop his gubernatorial race. He has really screwed up. this is terrible. Back the police department my foot. Clean up the police department needs to be the rule of the day.

You don’t want to get me started on this topic. I’ll start to sound too pragmatic. All hate aside. But I compare the state of Islam to Nazism from 1940′s Germany Europe and State Shinto Buddhism of Imperial Japan. Both were outlawed by the League of Nations. Islam is a dangerous religion which call for the rule of the world in an Islamic state. Muslims are like Nazis or Shintos. They want world domination and the building of a mosque at the site of the world trade center is a symbolic victory for Islam. The United States, France, Germany, Brittan, Spain, the entire European Union, China, and Russia are all at war with Islam. Despite the fact that no one will say it out loud, it appears president Obama is out of step with the serious nature Islam presents to the world. Unfortunately, sooner or later all of the world civilized governments will be force to announce what they all privately believe. Islam is a violent dangerous religion which is at war with the world. we are presently in World War three and that war is with Islam.
It is not as simple as the Christian crusades of the 11th and 12 centuries. These people; Muslims, want to kill us all and rule the world. Most all of the Islamic countries are uncivilized and rule under ancient religious rules of the Koran which suppress human rights. We Americans and Brits made them all rich off of the oil we found in the middle East. The problem is that they were and still are a 12 century culture who go around beheading people and stoning little girls in Stadiums. I mean what the fuck. These people are barbarians. Fact. You can’t reason with these people. Mosques are used as recruitment centers all over the world. There are 125 known Islamic army’s in 125 different countries world wide. We are at war with Islam. They not only attacked us on 911, they started World War Three.
There is simply no difference between Islam and Shinto or the pagan Nazism. All are nationalists. You know the nation of Islam?? Civilization of Muslims collectively which is governed by the Muslim religion?? Imperial Japan? Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Workers’ Party?? If anything we need to ban Islam. the world court needs to rule it illegal in every country we conquer. Starting with Iraq. Either that or we are all going to fucking die the next time they nuke us on our own soil with Russian made weapons.

Denver Police Department out of control: Unbelievable

Dear Internet,
Denver Police department has always had a reputation for system wide corruption and for officers who wear the badge but are thugs in reality. This is a department which cannot be trusted. This is a department when compared to Boulder PD does not come close to modern day policing.
This is a department who in the 1930s were mostly Klan members. In the 1940′s had unsolved murders of citizens attributed to them. In the 1970′s more than 1/2 the department were fired for taking bribes. In the 1980′s and 90s constant claims of police brutality. And now, this week we have two video cases of citizens being attacked and beaten nearly to death by patrol officers.
In both cases the Chief of police in Denver has said nothing .He needs to do something or be fired. The director of Public Safety a former Denver cop has backed his officers with a smirk and sneer on his face. He is attempting a cover up in the face of horrible video. He needs to go. Mayor Hickenlooper needs to clean up Denver PD or he needs top go too. His run for Governor is now in jeopardy. All four of those officers … I say that reservedly….they are jack ass cops who need some street justice from the community…… should have been fired immediately. They haven’t even been put on administrative leave. The message sent to the community is ” we’ll beat the crap out of whoever we want whenever we want”
If this situation is not put in check by the weekend, reprisals against Denver police officers will likely happen during this coming hot weekend. The Denver news media has gone after the Denver PD non-stop all week long. The community protests are at a peak shrill demanding resignations high and low. But the real threat is yet to come. That threat will come from frustrated citizens who will take up arms against the Denver PD. It has happened before. Los Angeles has seen daily shootings at passing police cars from atop buildings as has Oakland and San Francisco. That is just my take on it. But the citizens of Denver are in no mood. I wouldn’t want to be a cop there right now.

One of their problems Seth is having right now is that he is a writer; a journalist. As much as he would like to accepted by the politicians he criticized, it will never happen. Things just don’t work that way. You are friends with them until you cross that sacred line. Seth crossed it dozens of times and he crossed it in threatening ways. ie: showing up drunk at city council meetings regularly; yelling from the audience; giving drunken rambling speeches; writing highly inflammatory insulting letters to and articles about individual council members as well as the entire council; the list goes on.

When Shaun McGrath was mayor he went after Seth and stopped him from producing his satirical videos for public access TV. The way McGrath did it was by showing up at access board meetings, filibustering the meetings, not letting Seth talk and then denying him access, pulling Seth aside and overall abusing Seth. Seth and all of his “Gonzo ” journalist friends ( myself included) lined up to take literary shots at McGrath. It was merciless. But McGrath and the Boulder city council deserved every bit of the harsh criticism they received over denied access to the cable channels.

This week the council and the Daily Camera went after Seth again with more proposed laws denying Seth the right to perform in front of council and wear costumes. And Seth, rob and Donna have stated right back in on the city over their violation of civil rights. The city was in negotiations with Seths attorney on a cash settlement from the last time the city got into trouble. It doesn’t look like they have learned a thing. Shockingly, Lisa Morzal is the co -author of these new rules. They Daily Camera put Seth on the front Page portraying him as a dangerous threat. The entire council and Daily Camera went after Seth and myself in 2008 as potential threats over our journalism.. So now what?? I’ll tell you what now. It is all starting up again. Over what? Over bullshit that’s what. Anyway, our writers at Boulder channel 1 News have taken the liberal point of view against the Daily Camera’s more suppressive conservative Fox News view.

Several months ago capt. underpants went to city council and proceeded to tell them exactly what he thought of them. They had him arrested and now they are going to have to pay.
This is a result of a culmination of civil rights violations perpetrated by council on Seth over the past 5years. They got away with it through three different councils until today. All of the threats, insults, free speech violations toward Seth and others (me) are now going to Federal court. There were a host of council members who took the law into their own hands and rewrote the US constitution including former Mayors Mark Ruzzin and Shaun McGrath who lied bald face about it; other include Robin Bohannan head of BC Aids project, attorney’s Susie Ageston and Macoln Cowles who defended illegal actions of free speech violations. Other council members include; Jack Stokes, CU professor ken Wilson, and other dopey citizen politicians.
Still there is no Public access free speech TV because these nazis decided it is better to live with facism than it is with liberty.
Let us not forget the boulder ACLU who stood by watched all led to the ovens.

It was a warm spring morning and I had recently started my job with International Times in London. I had just gotten off of one of those double decker bright red London buses and stepped onto New Oxford Street in the heart of London. New Oxford Street is a busy 4 lane road line with big stores and bustling hoards of shoppers, tourists and office workers. I started to walk down New Oxord toward Carnaby where I was going to head into Soho where the I T office was.
The distinct smell of explosives were in the air. As I walked I noticed people were hurrying by me in distress. Some had shock, horror, and tears in their eyes . I had no idea what I was about to come upon. About a block ahead I could see, police, ambulances, and military vehicles. I kept walking. People were stopped all around me as I approached the scene, but there were no police lines or tape. Londoners who had endured the horrors of WWII bombings instinctively know to stay away. Being a naive yank and a nosy reporter, I didn’t know any better. I stepped right through the ongoings and noticed I was walking in broken glass shards and this sticky substance. When I looked down it was blood and human body tissue.
A bobby asked me : “are you a reporter?” How would he know that. ? Well, he didn’t , but only an idiot or a reporter would walk straight into a terrorist bombing scene like he was in charge. My Nikon Camera was hanging around my neck. I flipped out my Press ID.
“International Times”,I replied.
“I know” he said ” “Your’e the new yank on board” he paused….”this is my beat. I know everyone who works down here…especially your type”
Cops have a love hate relationship with reporters. Reporters are like cops, but aren’t held to the same rules. They are part of the 4th estate who are the watch dogs of government and the police.
” You tell them what they did down here” he said and then kept moving to help people.
The Irish Republican Army had planted a shoe box bomb inside the glass entrance way of Harrods Department store set to go off at 9:00 am. It did injuring and maiming 25 people. I missed it by 15 minutes. There was glass, blood, wood, concrete, body parts strewn all across the sidewalk and into the street. The last of the injured were just being carried away by ambulance. I was the first press there and started snapping pictures. Amidst all of this the sweepers had arrived and started cleaning the streets. No sooner had the event started, It was coming to an end. Londoners don’t like bomb scenes.
When I got to my office a colleague noted, “I see you’ve been to the bombing.” He then went on to explain that IRA bombings were routine in London.
“Good idea to stay off New Oxford Street in the morning” he said. ” they’ll be bombing it regularly now” “stay out of the Tubes too” he warned.
Between April and December of 1973, the IRA had set off weekly bombs on New Oxford Street, killing hundreds of people. They blew up Victoria and Piccadilly train stations. Islamic radicals assaulted and bombed Parliament and engaged in a shoot out with British commandos. During the Christmas offensive of 1973 the IRA bombed central London everyday in Deptember. They sent letter bombs to US Senators blowing off the hands of their secretaries.
They also sent one to me at the IT office. Before I could open it, New Scotland Yard bomb disposal unit had arrived and disabled it. Inside was a sheet of plastic, a book on the IRA and a letter to me asking that to tell the story of British rule over Northern Ireland to the American people. What was erie is that , they knew who I was and I was a nobody…..except to say I was an American reporter living in London.
I won’t say that I became used to terrorism while living and working in there. But I became acutely aware that we Americans have no idea what daily terrorism is, what it’s like to hear “another bomb go off”. And that’s a good thing, because it gave me hyper vigilance and a bit of PTSD. read: I am always assessing danger on the street.
It was then, too, that I became a patriot,( in the true sense of the word), started to have respect for America for LE, the military, NSA, CIA, Interpol and our extraordinary intelligence capabilities on this side of the pond. It is by no mistake that we are rarely attacked in this country. It is not the ocean either. It is the dedicated men and women of our state department, US Marshals, Secret service and many intelligence agencies that we will sleep tonight, safely with out the fear of walking down Pearl street this morning to a bomb going off on the mall. The US has superiority in interdicting terrorism around the world before it gets here.
Was 911 an anomaly ? Yes it was. And it won’t be happening again. President bush set up an ironclad intelligence system and to his credit, President Obama has only added to it. He’s not stupid. He knows his job is to keep us safe. I moved to Edinburgh Scotland that winter only to be faced with Scottish Nationalists who were planning to join their Celtic IRA brethren in their struggle to overthrow the Crown. More guns, more paramilitary, more hate more bombs.
I left the UK that August only to arrive to a happy crowd in Harvard square and to witness the resignation of Richard Mill-house Nixon. While I was gone , he had been impeached. Not a shot was fired.

Some people say the USA is the most violent country in the world. That’s bullshit and only spoken by people who have never lived outside the USA. I’ve lived in other so called western countries and this place is like Disney land. Pick a better country. I’ll stick with the good ole USA.

My daffodils are up in glorious splendor. The crocus's are coming to an end and the tulips are pushing up. The primrose are a trying. Last years Johnny jump ups are coming back and the lawn is turning green. Buds are on the tree. Yesterday it hit 80 degrees. The song birds are out chirping up a mate.

It is very busy in my back yard. Dave painted the deck for my 30th annual Easter Bar B Que...you're all invited. Today there will be raking the lawn and putting out all the lawn furniture, putting up a tent and getting some chairs. Then I have to go food shopping for 50 people. Maybe I'll do that on Friday.

I paid Dave in cash yesterday. He has a habit of getting drunk after I pay him and then he's worthless until he sobers up. He usually calls me drunk telling me he's ready to work. Or i'll go to pick him up and he's still drunk from the night before. I have to tell him each time, he can't work if he's been drinking......he usually insists that he sober. Oh boy. Dave is essentially homeless and alcohol has kept him that way. He can't stay sober long enough to put any kind of life together. Though, God knows he tries. He is one of those westerners who is capable at doing many different jobs. He's a good worker and honest. But alcohol and cigarettes are killing him and I expect one day he wind up dead on the side of the bike path like so many chronic alcoholics here in Boulder. I try to help some of these folks out but you have to have good boundaries with street alcoholics. They aren't boy scouts and some of them will rob you or get violent. I won't have anything to do with those types. But I am just hoping that one day, the message of hope will carry over to Dave and he will sober up.

Amie was a nice Japanese lady in her early 40's with 3 daughters and a husband. I say was, because she died last week in a drunk driving car accident near Cherry Vale road. Unlike Dave Amie had it all; 3 beautiful daughters and successful husband, nice house, new BMW. Yet Amie died not from a car accident as the news paper reported. ........Not even from drunk driving. She died from chronic advanced alcoholism. She couldn't get sober. It tormented her. She became a stay at home mom alcoholic who drove drunk with her kids, disapeared and was a complete wreck at the end.

But to me She and Dave are the same.........Aimee died and shattered 4 lives in the process. She couldn't do a thing about it. Dave is taking just a little longer to kill himself. His family won't have anything to do with him. His mom died here in Boulder two weeks ago and no one told him. That's because they didn't want a dirty old smelly drunk at the funeral to screw things up. But Dave doesn't see himself that way. He's in such denial about his condition. Amie wasn't in denial. She knew.......... but she still drank herself to death in a wealthy Boulder neighborhood.

This is a little weird. Yesterdays post came about as a free flowing stream of consciousness which I never do on this blog. It started out with "What has happened........ and the rest filled in itself. I had no idea or preconception about what I was going to write....... except to say it was prophetic. I must have received a psychic message because if you read todays news headlines:

(CBS) In a news report just days before the FBI arrested nine members of Christian militia group in Michigan on charges they were plotting an attack on police officers, local government reached out to the militia for help finding missing residents.

This is the same group who backed Tim McVe before he blew up Oklahoma. Also, there are cops all over the place with auto weapons in New York City and elsewhere in the USA.....looking for Ron Paul and Sarah Palin extremists who are planing synchronized attacks on America. I envisioned the bombing of the world trade Centers before came down and talked about it at least 5 times on TV before it happened. I don't want to see these things, I just see them. I am also pretty good at predicting the future in terms of trends, successful business ventures.

I have spent quite a bit of time this past year studying the New World Order crowd. They stem from a protestant fundamentalist Christian Charismatic belief that: Satan by controlling the Jews will bring about a one world government which will make us all slaves to the Devil.

I have personally seen this preached right here in Boulder. The movement is now so big that these folks pose a real threat again to Americans. Hitler actually used the same method to rally Lutheran Germany to exterminate the Jews. These are very very dangerous people. Colorado has a lot of them both on the right and left of politics. We have had them since the 1930s when the Ku Klu Klan numbered in the 10s of 1000s. The new world Order radio network is located right over in Johnstown

Apolitically, they see the government controlled by big banks and corporations who want to enslave us . The religion comes in when it is finally revealed that Satan himself is controlling the whole show. Only Christian warriors like the anti new world order people will save us from Satans grip. They will do this by killing all democrats, the president, the police, the military and the government. These are gods chosen people. They are as crazy as Alcaida.

What has happened to civility? I am having a real hard time with Sarah Palin and her Tea party. These people are a little nuts. Who doesn't want affordable Health Care for all Americans? They don't. Who doesn't think minimum wage, Social Security, unemployment compensation, conservation projects, the FDIC, and Medicare are not good. The Tea Party and Palin hate all of it. So I ask my self , Who T F are these people?? They remind me of the autocratic Chinese. Very scary bomb throwing TimMcvey relatives. I sure hope the Secret Service, FBI and US Marshal Service have these people under surveillance. There's a bomb about to go off and when it does , the next one will be by these crazies. Forget about worrying about Osama for right now. Watch out for the mad Christian right and all of their unAmerican ideals. Seriously.

City of Boulder Channel 8 has HUGE turn around. It looks Great.

Okay. Today I will say something "nice" about the city government. Channel 8 has turned it self around and is now on the air playing shows 24 hours a day. After 30 years municipal channel 8 finally got a communications director who is making channel 8 "real". You know, for years they would play programs sporadically throughout the day and almost never at night. The management were not TV people. The new guy, Patrick Vonkeyserling is a former newspaper man has been very open to learn about what a good municipal access channel should look like.

Without much fanfare he as taken his city communications staff, channel 8 staff and started knocking out relevant weekly programming. The schedule is full all night long. No more boring text in prime time.

I have no idea what ran through the cities head in the last three decades when programming was rare and never at night. So this should satisfy council woman Crystal Gray, who , when ever we spoke would always lament " I wish channel 8 would get their act together." Well, they have and it is the result of common sense of city communications director Patrick Vonkeyserling.

Vonkeyserling is an approachable, a can do kind of person which is a rare quality amongst bureaucrats. .

There see! I said something nice. I don't think all of local government is evil and from the pits of hell. I am quite certain the Lord has been guiding channel 8s recent changes. Today begins holy week. It's palm Sunday and next Sunday is Easter which will officially start spring in my book.

Seth Brigham (aka capt. Underpants) officially announced today that he has retained the legal service of famous civil rights attorney David Lane. Lane comes with the full backing of the ACLU and other lawyers not only in his firm but other firms in Boulder and Denver. Lane has carefully gone over the violations by the Boulder City council of Seths free speech rights. When David Lane comes knocking on the cities door this is serious business and Lane will take it all of the way to the US Supreme court if necessary.

The Boulder council has had this coming for a long time. They have repeatedly violated citizens civil rights over the past decade. This all started back in in 2003 when they attempted to control free speech on public access tv. This is the dirty work of former mayor Mark Ruzzin come home to roost. This is retribution for the evil doings of former council members Robin Bohannan, Andy Schuthies, Jack Stoakes, Richard Polk and the notorious mayor Shawn Mcgrath. This is pay back for the scandalous Tony Perri and his cabal The Beeck sisters (BIFF), and attorney Barry Satlow who all repeatedly violated Seth's right to free speech. It has been the most notorious time in Boulder's history.

A Lane led lawsuit not only answers the council many attempts to shut Seth up, it answers the council attempt to shut up all citizens on public access TV. The current dastardly council members with works of suppression are the terrible Suzy Ageston, Ken Wilson, Macon Cowles, George K. and Mayor Susan Osborne.

A winning lawsuit by David Lane will provide the hundreds of thousand of dollars we need to further fight the city in future first amendment battles.

This council will have to be made to pay and suffer before they ever get the message. They will be forced to turn public access channel 54 back on and they will have to write a formal letter of apology to Seth. Six council members must resign over this. The punishment needs to be swift and harsh.

Snow, the sun, flowers, smoking and eating abstinately;

Dear Internet,

Two days ago we got slammed by another spring snow which was wet, thick and slushy. About 12 inches came down in my back yard. I say my back yard in north Boulder which is different than someones back yard in south Boulder. There they might have gotten 9 inches of snow since they are lower than we are. To my west 1/2 mile is the very foot hills to the Rocky Mountains and they would have received 14 inches. Drive two miles up a canyon into the foothills and there would be 18 inches of snow.

Well, anyway, I still have snow on my deck and all the talking about it here won't get it shovelled off so the sun can dry the wood and it can be painted later in the day. That has to happen before my Easter Bar-B-Que.

All of the crocus are up and crushed by the latest snow. It went from 67 to 30 in one day and dumped snow on us. But my daffodils are coming up, not damaged by the snow and are ready to bloom.......soon. The grass has been turning green for the last two weeks. Yep. Spring is here.

I notice the sun is now staying up longer. It gets dark between 7:00 and 8:00pm. I find myself not knowing what to do. Just a month ago it seems it was dark at 5:00 pm. But now it's light and I'm tired by 8:00 because I get up at 5:00 am or earlier. Though, I often take naps. Mornings are my best time.......my most productive time and it is important not to waste them which can easily happen.

Today is day 4 off tobacco. I want to stay away from that 1-3 cigarettes I've been smoking for the last year on and off. Today I feel pretty committed. Tobacco withdrawal is a real charge. Makes you bounce around a lot.

I am also trying to eat abstinately, by writing down my food, having portion control, counting calories, trying not to eat bread, cheese, sugar etc which trigger binge eating. Vegetables don't do that to me. Like, if I eat steamed broccoli and cauliflower, I don't have any desire to knock off a pizza directly after. Tell me I am the only one dealing with this??

Todays' Boulder newspaper tells a story of a young man who was abducted off the streets of Boulder, kidnapped, robbed and then kicked out of the car unharmed.

I have had my run in with scumbags. When I was 18 I was kidnapped at gun point by three assailants. It was the summer and I was working cleanup detail of my parents tennis club main facility. There had been a wedding or some such. It was late and I had finished cleaning. I sat out by the pool playing my trumpet. I wasn't much good , but I loved playing Jazz. I saw a car pull down into the facility. I didn't think much of it. I thought it might have been a drunk club member coming back. Then suddenly up through the bushes came three men with stockings over their heads. They rushed toward me. One of them had a shotgun, the other two had hand guns. They told me to get up, that this was robbery.

I thought they were kidding. I couldn't believe this was happening. I said you're kidding? They assured me that, no this was my lucky night. It was a robbery. They wanted cash. The problem was that this was a tennis and swim club and their wasn't any cash. People payed dues or by check for events . I offered the new stereo equipment. We walked around the facility. My parents house was at the end. They were in there asleep. I offered my parents but the robbers weren't interested. Then they made me lay down on my face in the parking lot. I heard one of them say. No don't do it. Then they told me to get up and we waked to their car.

One of them was about 21 and he was mean. The other was calmer and was trying to keep everyone under control. We drove to another building in my family business complex. I took them in and they looked for the cash box which had maybe 50 cents in it. We then drove 6 miles out into the country. I thought they were going to kill me. They almost had back in the parking lot.

The car was quiet so I started talking to them apologizing that I couldn't find them any cash. I asked them about their guns and told them how much I liked them and how much I admired them for being criminals. I told them on my nights off, that I also kidnapped and robbed people and just how weird it was that I was being robbed by one of my colleagues.(yep I really told them that and they believed me too.) They started to feel stupid that they were robbing a brother so to speak.

They were all white. They youngest was 15 and shaking. He had his gun pointed at me as we sat together in the back seat. But he was loosing concentration. I asked him if it was loaded. He said it was. I thought about smacking him, taking his gun and shooting everyone in the car I was prepared to do just that, when they pulled over and let me go. Just like that it was over. It was then that I realized that my gift for gab and getting people to identify with me and buy my story was a natural born God given gift. It saved my life.

I walked up this country road until I came upon a house where a party was going on. Everyone was drunk. I explained what happened. The police came with my brother. The cops drove me around....but found no one.

The next day I was interviewed by detectives and told them they whole story just as I'm telling you. They told my parents that they didn't believe me and thought that I made the whole thing up. So in the end no one believed me. The story was just too wild for a small new England town. I asked for a lie detector test but they wouldn't give me one because they thought I was on drugs.

But this was before drugs entered my life.

I was pretty much a straight arrow at 18. I had family problems and was just starting to have problems with drinking, but I was as sober as a judge that night. Not only had I been kidnapped at gunpoint in an attempted robbery, nearly killed, but the police nor my parents believed me. It was my attempt to gain the robbers confidence is what that threw them. Why would you do that. ?? It was also at that point that I realized that I was on my own in this life. I could get killed and no one would give a shit....not the police....not my family....... it drove me straight into the counter culture where acceptance and truth was the norm. It's why I live in Boulder.

When I became a nightly talk show host with controversial topics I guested various Law enforcement agencies each week. They included: Denver PD , the DEA, CIA, NSA, Boulder pd, LAPD, Aurora Gang unit, Vail pd, NYPD, FBI, INS, you name the agency I've interviewed them. One common theme. People like me who had been victims of serious violent crime, never forget. It happens. I learned that as a talk show host I needed to be prepared at all times. I needed to learn how to defend myself; how not to become a victim and not get into cars with kidnappers. Cops see the worst possible people in the world on a daily basis. They saw what crazy people did to Denver talk show host Alan Berg. They all used to warn me to 'be safe'. My biggest threats came from crazy white drug dealers in Boulder, college punks and members of the Boulder city council. Self respecting real gangsters saw me as "the man' and wanted nothing to do with the kind of publicity and heat I bring. I have had to fight it out with crazy hippies in coffee shops who have attacked me. But anymore, I plain refuse to become a victim.

Everything has changed. It snowed all day yesterday and on into the night. Boulder got slammed with a heavy spring snow. I have 18 inches of snow in my yard with two foot drifts. I spent the day out and about seeing customers. I like working in the snow because no one else does and it makes it easier to make sales calls. I have these new studded snow tires on my hybrid Ford Escape. It sticks like glue in the snow. Yesterday was a big twitter and blog day too.
This morning the skys are clear. Everything will melt off in two days max. I wonder how all of my crocus will look. They were in full bloom two days a go when the temperature was in the 70's. Suddenly we were back in full blow winter.

Spring is Here. And it is snowing like crazy. 8" on my deck in 3 hours. I love it when it snows. I am sitting at my dining room table surrounded by two large windows where I can watch the birds come to the feeders in the snow.

My mom was a birder and later in life I have picked it up too. I have feeders all over the back and front yard. I picked up gardening and birding from her. My mom and grandmother had planted flower gardens all around the home I grew up in.

Cats; The bane of birds. But I like cats. I have to talk to them about leaving my bird friends alone. when talking doesn't work, the garden hose does. My mom used to keep a BB gun near the kitchen door to discourage cats. I think you can be arrested for that now. In fact i don't think you can shoot a squirrel either.

I can't let Fox News go with out saying something about the deplorable journalistic ethics they used when:
"Fox News has been criticised by the White House for its perceived right wing bias.
Mr Obama faced tough questioning and chided the interviewer, Bret Baier, for interrupting his answers, but he expressed confidence that the bill would finally be passed."

Death of a Salesman

Today was day three in our new sales reps life and it ended as predicted. Sales is one of those things you love and you are made for or not. There is a lot of rejection and, well , selling; pitching. It makes the difference between success and failure. Sales means you have to go to work and make things happen. It is not a passive profession. When movies get made, you can bet that the producers are relentless, deal making, salesmen. TV stations and networks rise and fall based on their sales departments. Some might argue it is the content. You can exist on bad content, but not a bad sales force.
In order to produce films and videos I have had to maintain this lesson and not let anything get in the way of advertising sales, project sales, website sales etc. I need money to be independent and produce the kinds of TV that I like. So finding people to train in sales is the challenge today.
I guess I need to get on with it.

Dear Internet;
I hired someone this week to work as a sales rep for Channel 1 networks. This is a person who I've known and is a local 'hot wire". I always like to help people out and give them a chance. But this person has extreme financial difficulties, like she is about to lose her house, car, and have her electricity turned off. With that kind of stress it is hard to be upbeat and be a good sales rep. She had run a marijuana dispensary business and all of the drugs made her sick and nearly killed her. Add crack to the mix and you've got person with frayed edges. With two kids and no food, it does make a person hungry and sometimes the best sales person. At least it did in my case. Nothing like hunger to make me get out and sell. Drug addiction will shatter a persons life and early in clean time, it is hard to maintain. I know all about it. I have been working with drug addicts and alcoholics for over 30 years on a daily basis.
In this job situation she is part of our sales team. Today will be her third day. The first two were kind of rough for her. Usually by the third day of training and sales both I and the trainee know if they are going to make it. It is a lot of phone work and visiting. She is only working 4 to 6 hours. Sales is a sink or swim situation especially in advertising sales. Besides being a writer, talk show host and Internet TV executive I am also a crafted sales person. You have to become one if you plan on staying in business. Sales and advertising is what we do in a big way. I don't know. It doesn't look good for this lady at the end of day two. She said some telling words; like ......"really I'm a performer".... "I don't know if I can do what you do" and then she started finding things wrong with the company, which is starting to piss me off. When that starts, usually the person is out the door by the third day. They start out with hope and cheer and then when reality sets in; ie; I'm a sales rep out pounding the streets every day making deals; for a person who is not up to the energy or task it can finish them off. Even with good training and success. So sales people are always a bit tricky. They complain, run high and low, love and hate their work alternatively. I do it under the same circumstances and I love it. Unless I'm depressed. It's a challenge. If I am out seeing people and talking to people every day, it is less of a challenge. There is a pattern and groove to cold calling.

We need the Health Care reform bill passed this week and the Republicans need to get out of the way of caring for the American people. Between them and the Insurance companies they have destroyed the lives of 1000's of our countrymen. Period.

Senator Dodd has a bill up this week to regulate Wall Street when it comes to derivatives and anything to do with mortgage lending. The Republicans stand in the way of this bill too because they attempted a coup d'etat by financial take over of the country. They were not counting on Barack Obama winning. This bill needs to pass.

I love this town.
Well, today we had gays protesting the Catholic Church, because they wanted membership. Really?? I thought they hated the church because of it's anti gay, anti abortion stance. A church run by a patriarch pope.........doesn't exactly seem the place for rainbow radical gay types. Incidentally, I refuse to buy all of the politics. To me this is just another radical leftist group who are trying to force their religion on a conservative ancient religion....Christianity. I'd like to see this action group try it with the Muslims......... I mean, they cut peoples heads off......big and little.

Former mayor Bob Greenlee came out for Seth Brigham ( sort of) in his column today. He berated the city council for being the spineless weasels they are. That had to be hard for Bob. He hates political advocates who come to council to speak each week. So do most of the council. They hate the public. But Bobs political Republican sensibility shown through when he wrote and stood behind the constitution of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! He quoted the first amendment..........you know that part about " redress of grievances to government". Two weeks ago Seth tried that ole first amendment trick in his underpants.........Well it didn't work. The council was not be criticized........They used police state tactics......and had that pesky patriot arrested and jailed......that'll show him and the rest of you. Do not question. Way to go there Bob.

Tonight 60 Minutes on CBS, the number one rated TV show in history, completely and totally destroyed all of the big banks who screwed America. Nice. Completely by co-incidence, I watched Michael Moores, "Capitalism; A Love Affair". Moore had come to the same conclusion over the past 20 years. Now, I am a capitalist, but these lying cheating Wall Street Crooks all deserve to be in prison for what they did. We have a few here in Boulder............and they are doing it all over again with the 1 trillion dollar bail out. But Moore pointed out that President Roosevelt's laid out a 2nd bill of rights in his 1944 state of the Union address..........You'll notice, it is exactly what president Obama is trying to get passed right now. Roosevelt was successful in passing Social security, minimum wage, labor laws, and HEALTH CARE, but he died before he could get the 2nd bill of rights passed. Who could possiblY be against this in a capitalist society? Here it is:

Holy Mother of God! there are homosexuals protesting the Catholic Church!

My church is under attack this morning. They wouldn't let a kid into the Catholic school because he has two mother lesbian parents. I never went to Catholic school. My mother and father protected me from them. Besides my dad was on the school board and they wanted me in public school. But back in the day if your heterosexual parents got a divorce, you were shunned and most likely expelled. My parents both went to Catholic School in around 1918. My relationship with the Catholic church has always been good. No one abused me. I went to a small town New England church,....although ........I never understood a thing because it was all in Latin. Even today the church isn't big on "teaching the Bible" every Sunday morning. I learned the bible from Richey Furrays' ( poco, buffalo Springfield) non-denominational, Protestant, charismatic, holy roller church. That place was a hoot. But I learned the bible there. They just have a tiny problem with judgement and believing the Earth was built exactly 6000 years ago and other ridiculous notions. I don't think Christ cares one bit if your theology is messed up . Because once the worship, praying, healing, and calling of spirits started.....God showed up in a glorious blast of plasma............hello Jesus.

That is also true at Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Lord is present there. too... even though the crazy prodestant evangelicals think "they are the devil"....... Father Bill Breslin is an excellent Priest; kind, sharp, smart and Christ filled. I don't think he's gay. What?

My friend jack grew up Catholic, but he was abused by priests when he was a child. Since then he has become a therapist and is the leading Colorado male voice on cleaning up the Catholic Church nationwide. He had a lot to do with having pedophile priests prosecuted.

But Jack said something to me that I find curious and some what unnerving;

he said:" most priests are gay or at least a lot of them..... that's what I find" " You have to watch the ones who are kind loving and caring" So now I'm weirded out because that is exactly what Father bill is like...and I wonder if he wants me in the South Park kind of way. Then there has been the problem of Lesbian nuns who abused children, which is less talked about, but Nun the less ( i couldn't help it) I have interviewed women who were abused.

So this brings me to today's full page Catholic Church attack ad in the Daily Camera signed by every gay advocacy group in the universe. On one hand the Catholic church has been trying to clear out gay pedophiles from the priesthood and convents. Now, on the other, they are under fire from Gays for towing a hard line. ........You tell me. WTF???

Anyway, I'm not going to church today, because there are gay protesters on the lawn, the sermon will be about Catholic dogma concerning marriage and homosexuality. I'll just go to a meeting. I'll let them fight it out with out me. But I suspect the church will not let kids of gay parents in without another Vatican council. To top that; the Pope is under fire this morning because while he was the cardinal in charge of investigating pedophile priests. He stands accused of covering for them. So to actually let gays into the church or schools is a lost cause. It was better for the lesbian mothers to "don't ask don't tell" . But, still that is what the Catholic church has been under fire for ...........with pedophile gay priests and nuns...........so its a mess. But it's going to make a great South Park episode.

"Strange Case of Captin Underpants vs Mr. Wilson".

Seth called me tonight and left a voicemail about his entanglement with Boulder city councilman Ken Wilson. Wilson, not to be confused with the cranky Mr. Wilson in Dennis the menace has been emailing everyone under the sun. In Mr Wilsons recent council public Hot mails he accuses Seth of email"sexual harassment". Seth said that's "wishful thinking " Huh? Wilson and Seth have been at loggerheads for years over Seths' demand for his right to free speech. Ken wants Seth arrested at every turn of the wheel. Seth rips off another blast every time Ken Wilson opens his mouth. It's the "Strange Case of Captain Underpants vs Mr. Wilson."

Meanwhile, my other writer friend Rob Smoke has been skewering the entire city council over hidden cell phone logs which are supposed to be transparent. Rob is also upset about what he calls a "phony Boulder reservoir contaminant study "over oil spills from motor boats. In a phone call with rob tonight he called Mr. Wilson "out of control" and perhaps some "therapy was in order"
Wilson is an elected public official who is not protected by any privacy, libel or slander laws so Rob, Seth or any member of the public can say anything about him. Ken keeps leading with his chin. Everyone from Pam White at the Weekly to Mike Roberts at Westword keep taking swipes at him . Ken is not with out his own field of controversy. When he wonders the Hill neighborhood peering into students houses late at night looking for under aged drinkers and parties he brings on his own set of complaints. Yikes!

Speaking of Dennis the Menace. I roomed with Dennis Ketcham ( son of Hank Ketcham author of the cartoon Dennis the menace) at boarding school in the early 60's. Dennis looked exactly like his cartoon counter part, but unlike Dennis, Dennis was polite and mild mannered........though he and I tore through the New York Natural History Museum like a couple of Chinese desert cats on a school outing.
Dennis went off to Vietnam after prep school, while I went to College. Dennis was a good Marine, saw a lot of fighing and when he came back he suffered from serious ptsd. God bless you Dennis.

Watched the Academy Awards with Jeb and Tyrone. Both are film buffs, so that was fun because we all are. One problem is that half of the films nominated were never shown here in Boulder. Like all of the foreign films and most of the documentaries. Why is that? For a film community, we never get to see new films upon release.

Monte died at the homeless shelter. I knew him for 20years. He was doing pretty well for several years. He got married to Lisa, had a family, job, house and then he went back to drinking. Lisa has a corporate job and raised the kids on her own. But Monte went back to drinking and became became a reluctant fixture on Boulders streets. His parents wouldn't have an open funeral for him because they didn't want to have " a bunch of homeless street alcoholics" at his funeral. They didn't want him to become a poster boy some homeless memorial. Monte was a street alcoholic and it was not something his parents wanted honored. It's not what they wanted for their son. His life is not what they had in mind for him. They were ashamed and heart broken by they way he lived and died. Lisa nor the children attended his funeral.
When I would see Monte on Pearl street, I would stop and talk with him for a bit. He told me he couldn't get sober, his health was failing and he was waiting for death. A death of alcoholism.

Living a healthy lifestyle

Colleen from Mr. Pool came over today and started the hot tub up for the season. It has actually been going all year, but I get it cleaned and emptied a few times a year. It is always on and serves as a relaxing health spa. I do have a "green" spa with out a lot of bad chemicals.
I often get massages too. These are deep tissue almost Rolphing sessions. Plus I see a trainer twice a week where we stretch, do cardio and weight lifting. The routine is constantly changing working out different muscle groups in unpredictable fashion. This way my body is pretty toned up all of the time. I am taking some meds for gout which is too much uric acid production from the kidneys. The uric acid crystallizes and attaches to joints which raises hell and inhibits mobility. Occasionally, I take meds to shut the stomach acid pump down.
Then there is a med to help quit smoking. An aspirin a day to prevent heart attacks. Crestor prevents plaque from forming in my arteries. I also take fish oil and vitamin D.
Having an eating plan is a constant work in progress. Lately I have been dropping beef and increasing vegetable smoothies. I think I will probably become mostly vegetarian again, since the evidence is pretty much in that proves animal products will destroy healthy living.
Finally, there is my weight which is 215. A weight reduction to 135 to 150 (I am only 5'5") will eliminate all of my pre-conditions to everything. It is more fun having people to do out door things with. I need to get out and about more to socialize with people. No matter what it is. I feel better when I do it. Boulder is a city where socializing with cool people is made easy. Except, when you are an isolator like me...well it takes effort.

Susan Osborne, Rob Smoke, Macon Cowles, Ken wilson, Seth Brigham, Boulder City Council love affair.

I spoke with journalist Rob Smoke last night who had a front row seat to the arrest of journalist Seth Brigham at the Boulder city council meeting two weeks ago. Robs account of what happened differs substantially from the cities account. According to Rob, the police officer was looking directly at Alicia Lewis the city clerk who gave the nod to the officer to arrest Seth. It wasn't councilman George "Kovorkian" the supposed councilman of death. George was motioning to the officer too. But according to the police report the officer said he took his instructions from the city clerk. Either way it is still a violation of Seth's first amendment rights to petition the government with grievances.
The corruption of the Boulder city council goes beyond the pale. According to Rob " they have been out to get any member of the public who questions them for the past 7 years. It is a terrible precedence that has been set ever since Suzie "the terrible" as she is known came on council.
The council really went to war with the press over public access TV as you all know, but it hasn't stopped. The worst on council according to Rob are" Suzie Ageston, Ken Wilson, George "Kovorkian" and Mr Exxon Valdeez himself Macon Cowels". Cowles has been one of the worst. Though he's a lawyer he is completely ignorant of first amendment law...he betrayed me Seth and everyone who thought he was principled" said Rob.
The Boulder Weekly last week ran a poll on whether Ken Wilson should be recalled. 64% of Boulderites said absolutely. This week the Weekly said that the council was elitist and targets people it does not like.
Westword has written two stories which go into detail about the hostility toward the public by the Boulder city council.
Channel 2 news did two stories on Seth which showed him in a favorable lite and the council as mean thugs.
Channel 7 did a story last night where it's anchors commented that Boulder is the only city council in Colorado history which had a member of the public arrested for "criticizing them in a personal attack. seems politicians should be able to take it if they plan on running for office" during public comment
Council women Lisa Morzel is the only member of "the gang of 9" who came right out and said that the city violated Seth's rights and that the council owed him an apology. Everyone else including Mayor Susan Osborne ducked apologizing to Seth directly.
Macon Cowles and Ken Wilson said they were afraid of Seth. First they raped him of his civil rights and now they blame the victim.
Crystal Gray did tell me by phone that the council violated Seth's rights and that Ken, Suzi and George are to Blame. She also said that "Susan Osborne did not know what she was doing" and botched they whole incident.
Rob stated that the council lives in a bubble and has no intention of ever being inviting to public input.
I understand David Lane is preparing a law suit based on Seth rights violated under the 1st and 4th amendment. the fist of course is Freedom of Speech, the 4th is illegal arrest and detention, which brings Boulder PD under fire as well.

note to reader: I am sorry that I have to go on about how the Boulder city council violates citizens rights.........but our freedoms are again at stake here in our fair city under the Flat Irons. And I just can't let it slide right now. I will feel better when Seth sues them. Also, having been a victim of these demonic forces I think we all need to support the one who currently carries the flag.

Seth prepares lawsuit: Boulder city council targets citizens: too dangerous to attend

Is it safe for the public to go to Boulder City Council meetings and speak their mind?? I don't think so. I won't go. If you have an opinion contrary to the councils, chances are good you will be verbally abused by members of the council with out a chance to defend your position. If you try, you will be arrested or worse. With the recent Marijuana Lobby taking over council meetings, you take your life in your hands by trying to voice your opinion .
I have witnessed this first hand. The Boulder city council reminds me of the 1990s youth gangs in Denver. I once attended a Gang Summit run by channel 9 and the city. What a dumb idea that was. The crips gathered on one part of the room, the bloods in another and in the middle of the town meeting in walked the all white skin head gang of Ku Klux Klan.
The racial epithets started flying and it took the entire Denver Police to stop the fighting.

Boulder city council meetings have been that way at least since 2005 when they went after Human Relations commission chairman Rob Smoke over his silly My Space account. After that it was open season on anyone they didn't like. They came after me over my TV show, Donna Marek over her TV show, Guy Erricksen over his TV show and his criticisms of council. Then they went after Seth over his criticisms of council policy on free speech. They finally had him arrested two weeks ago.
Now the council is lock step with the Marijuana drug dealer gang known as the MJs. The Boulder MJs are a dangerous criminal element who run medical marijuana dispensaries. Any one who criticizes them needs to carry a gun to defend themselves. They are so violent and intimidating that no one is safe criticizing them at a public forum. The Boulder police department do not have a handle on this explosive situation of the Boulder City Council Gang and the MJs. They are in league. The police have moved from keeping the peace to implementing policies of suppressing descent.
The police also over stepped their authority two weeks ago when the arrested Seth Brigham for speaking his mind. Cops now stand up front in a raised position of power, intimidation and authority ready to ponce on anyone who speaks their mind. So is it safe for the public to attend city council meetings these days? Absolutely not. Not to mention, the park and creek path near the municipal building is riddled with crack, heroin dealers and homeless drunken street pirates. That area is due for another rape or assault any day. With the MJs attending council meetings lately, they all hang out side the municipal building doing and selling drugs which make the area even more dangerous... especially at night. This reminds me of Pudins' Russia where the government, gangs, police are the dangerous ones to be feared by citizens. Throw in a district attorney who won't up hold criminal drug laws and it makes attendance of Boulder city council meetings all that more dangerous.
Yesterday, Seth had another meeting with famous civil rights attorney David Lane. Expect a law suit within two weeks. David has advised Seth to stay away from council since they are arrest crazy. That's good advice to anyone unless you go to council meetings with your own gang ready to defend yourself.
I'm a writer and talk show host. I can sit back here and assess the situation via electronic technology with out having to go onto the battle field . I can talk on TV about it. Even then I don't feel safe, because they are always conspiring to have the minority point of view arrested. But city council meetings is gang turf and in Boulder there aren't many fans of free speech there. Stay home if you don't want to be arrested.

What's happening to us? I wonder if Rachel Carson was right? Is it happening now? Are we having "eco eruptions"? Were the multiple earth quakes Sunday all over South America part of it.? Was the Haiti quake a sign. Were all of the giant hurricanes in the past decade the beginning? How about the enormous number of large tornado's? Does it mean anything with the that my flowers start blooming in December.??
Throw in a little nuclear terrorism, is the world about to change again to something akin of the horrors of the 1930's and 40's .? Will the economy finally collapse once and for all.? Will the shift in our loss of civil rights destroy Boulder?
Or am i just over reacting? Should I just mind my business side of the business and let journalism flow into the fog?

I have been on TV here in Colorado since 1989. It started on Boulders channel 19 where I hosted the Jann Scott show, a live call in show on the days issues. It started as an off shoot of my Denver talk radio show . It was a hit from the first. That show ran twice a week for years in one incarnation or another. Eventually I was on 5 nights a week all over the state. In 2005 we started Internet TV and that changed the game and still does. It opens me to the entire world, similar to this blog. I have no idea who all sees my shows or reads this. There are some traces through the search engines and other posts from the interweb, but I just assume everyone is watching or reading.
Since Boulder truly is an extremely famous city world wide and I am one of it's most visible characters in media. It's a safe bet people come here to see what our city is all about. In some sense this 365 day blog project is a record of life in Boulder.
One of the things that happen when you are on TV everyday is that people get to know you through that medium...............a lot of people............from all over the state.
Here in Boulder I often forget that I am on TV until I am out somewhere and I'll notice someone staring at me. In Denver or other places it is even more obvious where I have had 'everyday man or women " fans for 20 years. Sometimes people just come over and say hello as though they know me and or like an old friend.
The staring is unnerving though but by now I understand it. Boulderites are often a bit strange type of fan. Most people are polite, don't pay much attention. Some are very friendly. When I have a particular show that is popular with CU kids, they will go out of their way to show fandom; yell out their cars, come over in a restaurant, stop me on the street. They are always fun.
The weirdest fan are the ones who disagree with me on some issue such as drugs or politics.
Some of them will just shake their head when they walk by or mumble something. In some cases come right over and start in. Occasionally some one will become violent. Since Boulder does have a rabid leftist core, I find them the most dangerous people I have come across. Far more than Denver gangsters or extreme right wingers or religious nuts.
Sometimes it keeps me from going out. When I'm doing well I have to mentally prepare myself........... Seeing friendly fans is always nice. When mean people say things or shake their head I'll sometimes stare right back with a " what the f--- is your problem". I have been known to tell a rude stranger to F--- off.
I'll often stop and chat with friendly fans.......I've met peoples entire families on the mall.
But there is this thing called fandom in my life. Each person feels that they have a special relationship. Most of my personal friends are unaware of it, unless they hang out with me a lot and then I often hear.. "you sure know a lot of people don't you"??

Addiction; what if God was one of us?

Dear internet,
Yesterday I wrote about the effects of drug and alcohol addiction and predictably, the sick addicts in our community wrote in denying there was ever a problem. I'm not publishing their remarks because they are totally merit less.
Two of them are addicts who were in recovery and have now managed to live in internal futility. We all have someone in our lives like that. They never want to look at their own addiction, complain about everyone else and then sink deeper into the mire.

One friend just switched drugs but he can't see it. He was pretty upset that I dare address community addiction....calling it something else....a favorite addict denial system blaming the "War on Drugs" for his problems. Another friend has a parent who is a terrible alcoholic. Boulder has a lot of parents who are terrible alcoholics who screw their kids up. This guy is pretty angry with my discussions on addiction too. But he has a glimmer of hope, because he sees where he is addicted and might be ready to quit again. That's where I can help. I am pretty good at helping people down that path. Folks just need a way out of addiction that is attractive and is doable in small doses so to speak ( pun intended).

Since it's Sunday, I though I'd talk about God before I go to church. Boulder is a spiritual community. The churches are filled. Even those who don't go to a church are seeking God on some path. We are seekers...searchers. I was. I went to every church in Boulder, tried every religion, went to every seminar you could think of and then one day while talking to a lady out on east Arapahoe, she invited me to Richie Furrays rock n roll church on 9th street. I went there not knowing what to expect and had a Joel Eddlestien moment.......the realization that their was a God, that I was a created being by someone else who cared enough that his presence would be shown to me if I asked. More about Him later.

Boulders' alcohol and drug addiction epidemic "My Life in Boulder"

Recently, I have done a couple of Jann Scott Live 3 minute video blogs on drugs...... one on marijuana and one on narcotic pain clinics. Basically, my take is that the medical marijuana clinics and pain clinics are ruses for selling drugs of all kinds to anybody who wants them regardless of age. There are no checks or balances. There is just a wide open drug trade supported by local government with no concern by health agencies.
So over the past month I have come under attack by the druggie crowd on Craigslist, twitter and in the general boulder underground. That is par for the course when ever I write or talk about drug addiction.
My colleagues in the addiction recovery field pretty much throw up their hands when it comes to addressing the out of control drug trade and burgeoning addiction in Boulder. My friend Crystal Gray, city council women just laughs at the whole thing...which is telling..because Boulder has long been a haven of the drug culture .....it's like who cares?
I care about the people who get sick; the families who have to endure hardship as a result of the illness. I care about young children who are introduced to drugs by their alcoholic parents or older brothers and sisters. I care about the incidence of domestic violence as a result of alcohol and drug abuse. I care that only 5% of drug addicts or alcoholics actually ever recover. I care that Boulder has no effective treatment for a city with the highest addiction rate in the USA.
I care that the professional community from DOC, courts, mental health, social services, probation, ARC, LE, DA, Boulder Community Hospital and University have never come together with the largest public resource in the city, the 12 step community of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. It could happen so easily too and a lot of lives could be saved at little financial cost. So what's preventing it? A lot of ego.
Just before the Jon Bennet Ramsey case broke in 1995, we had community wide Alcohol Summits which had us well on our way to become a community with a viable solution to the addiction epidemic affecting us all. We were about top become a community in recovery. It started in the DA's office who pulled the parties together and opened a community wide discussion. It never happened.
Today we sell more alcohol and drugs than ever creating more and more little addicts. The number of teenagers living in private drug treatment half way houses in boulder has exploded.

We are in such trouble.

Boulder's economy, Larry, Karen, Steve, Seth, Rob Smoke, Brett Parnes, ACLU

yeah, well I did get "dear Internet" from Conan O'Briens' last show on the day before I started this 365 day blog project. He asked, 'do you think anyone actually ever starts a blog with "dear Internet"...... I wanted to be first. I'll admit. Its the new dear diary..... a little girly...but what the hey.

My friend Larry who owns a restaurant told me that a lot of eateries in Boulder are on the brink of closing. We were having an advertising meeting this morning. My company Channel One Networks handles his TV, online, social marketing and advertising. The way I see it is Boulder has too many restaurants to be supported by a city in recession. About 10% will have to close. That is 30 more restaurants. The ones that will survive will be the restaurants with a loyal clientele with upper income. Restaurants that cater to construction workers are going to close because they are all out of work. So 2010 will be another 'ruff' year in that over built sector.

Karen a Boulder realtor also tells me she sees 2010 as another bad year for people who are upside down in their homes. Boulder has more this year than last. People with million dollar homes and mortgages have lost 10% to 30% equity and they are really in trouble. If you lost your high paying job, you most likely will be completely wiped out this year. The million dollar homes are not moving at any price.

Steve and I had the "modest meal" special tonight at Johnson's Corner. Real turkey, scalloped potatoes, salad, stuffing, real cranberry sauce for $6.00. Tonight the conversation went right to the economy. Steve's house is paid for and he lives on a modest income with no debt. This probably looks pretty good to those of you struggling to pay a mortgage. Two years ago he bought a house for half price in a short sale from a Denver bank who had to make the deal or fold themselves.

This afternoon I had a meeting with a documentary film client. We produced 5 films, published a book, built a website and 70 social media sites in 2009. We basically built and manage a media company for him. His focus is that which captured a segment of the American landscape this past year: The tea party. And they are all worried about everything conspiratorial.

My company is doing very well in this economy. We offer high impact advertising with guaranteed results, 24 hour service at a low price........my problem is we have so much business, I have to be careful not to take too much and I don't. We turn business down. But we are very good at what we do and we are in demand. This is all by design mind you. Internet companies come and go in Boulder at a rapid rate. I've been in business since 1987 and have seen it all. But we are intent on remaining rock solid, yet at the forefront of every new media innovation.....some we invent. Sounds like a pitch, huh.? It is. Say it loud and say it proud.

Rob Smoke sent in two articles on the miss doings of local government and the polluted water from Boulder reservoir. They are well written and posted in yesterdays comments. I've known Rob for over 20 years. Originally I met him around the rooms of Boulder. Then I read him when he was a writer for the Daily Camera, and finally ran into him at city council meetings where I would go to speak on public access TV. We've been fast friends ever since. He is an excellent writer and often has a clear take on complicated political issues though we disagree on some things. But he has been a staunch supporter of mine when I have been in the thick of the fight with Boulder City council, their contractors and the university over censorship of me and everyone else by all of them. It was a nasty fight from 2005 to just last year when the school district accepted our video blog 22Boom which includes the work of 8 local TV producers....... I'll tell you about that in the near future Do look at yesterdays blog comments for Robs latest.

Seth has been calling me for support every day. Fortunately, he's not drinking too much and taking his meds. He remains on the front pages of the local papers over the cities censorship of his comments. He met with the local chapter of the ACLU last night. They are going to officially protest Seth's treatment by the council. One of their lawyer members is Brett Parnes who was the chair of the Public Access channel in Boulder. Brett is a solid good guy who moved here from Michigan 12 years a go. He too was treated unfairly by local government over first amendment rights issues. This will be his and the ACLUs chance to rub the cities face in it once again. Brett once wrote a long missive about the poor treatment by the city of me and Seth. They fired him and his board when Brett refused to keep us off channel 54. The council also shut down the channel. So now in one scratch of the microphone the city council finds themselves embroiled in their 6th straight year of fights with the same free speech crowd. Our news department will be reporting on this on Boulder Channel One. But as a Daily Camera reporter told me last night "this story isn't going away anytime soon". Glee. No it isn't.

Crystal Gray told me Ken and George conspired to silence Seth

I had a long talk with Crystal Gray, former assistant mayor, current city council member, long time Boulderite, Whittier Neighborhood resident....exhale!
Crystal's around my age and I've known her for a long time. She's a fan. Her dad was a Baltimore sports reporter, so she has an affection for old guy news types like myself. She reads the blog and watches the TV show without regret.........well at least up until today.
So it turns out that when Seth was speaking at city council and got arrested last week, it was KEN WILSON who was scratching the sensitive mic that muffled Seth's comments. The council is now spilt over free speech issues. Ken, George, and Susie are about to be lynched by the other six council members. Or at least they are very close to getting slapped. I'm enjoying this immensely....mostly because I am not the center of this mess.....and secondly because "they had it coming" they really did. Seth's criminal case will most likely be dropped by the city attorney.
But the city government is in for a real firestorm now!
Seth it turns out is hiring my civil rights lawyer, David Lane. Lane has represented a lot of high profile cases including Ward Churchill. He is also very good and generally wins. The city will be smart enough not to go to trial and will settle for something in the neighborhood of up to 1 million dollars. Today, two council members Morzel and Gray both came out publicly stated that Seth's first amendment rights were violated.......that's it. It's a slam dunk now for the plaintiff. I think between all of us who had our rights abridged by the city or the university, it is clear to any reasonable person that our city has crossed the line to a real breach of our constituional rights.
So this is all good now

@CBS @ABC @NBC why do they relegate their best to last?

My favorite news channels are on overnight between 2:00 am and 5:00 am. CBS, ABC, and NBC have the absolute best news casts, Barr none at ANY time of the day. They all have huge news organizations. The reporting and features at that time of the morning are far better than the crap we see on CNN and God forbid Fox. Yep. Better than PBS which is laborious, dry, dull and death at anytime. Better than BBC which is "over there".
The evening news casts for all three broadcast networks aren't very good. They are rushed and pressured. It looks like the news departments are frustrated and they have to do something with all of that talent, so the the networks let them do their thing in the dead of night when no one is watching. If the networks can sell infomercials they bump the news. Is anybody else besides me watching these broadcasts? They are young, hip, professional, "really intelligent", in depth and informative.
I like CBS the best. Two nights ago, the anchor for all 3 hours, Michelle Gilland interviewed an expert on Afghanistan who I've never seen before ) and I watch a lot of news and TV in general). In 5 minutes they explained something I never knew about Afghanistan.... That the government and military speak one language and all of the people they are fighting speak a totally different language and there are no translators and no one knows what the hell the other is doing or talking about. No wonder Afghan refugees want to come here and blow up the New York subway system. Makes sense to me. " Dude! you blew up my families hut! alright , I'm coming to New York and blow up your hut"
So what I want to know is why the hell don't these networks replay these overnight news casts during the day on their cable networks, when people are actually watchings?? It seems to be a huge waste. You and I are forced to watch inferior cable daytime drool. Not that they're reading this...........But if you are ever up late and can't sleep, check out the over night network news casts. (Oh incidentally I am on at that time too on comcast channel 22.)
I remember back in 1986 I used to watch all of the time when Charlie Rose hosted over nights on CBS. I felt the same way then. But since the economy has gone bad and networks can't sell infomercials, they put their very best on. Isn't it amazing how corporations and governments never seem to put their best forward??

Got my kicks on Route66

Tonight I have been working on my Route66 travel video series I produced from 1995 til 2003. It's a 22 part 30 minute series:

What's really weird is that I first travelled Route66 in 1957 when I was 11 years old. My mother and I drove the "mother road" from Chicago to Flagstaff for Christmas vacation. This was when the road was still a US hiway, before the interstate system......though we watched for hundreds of miles while it was being built along side of Route 66. We drove it again the next year in 1958 when the TV series Route 66 was smash hit. We drove her 1956 T-Bird which she bought new .
My mother passed on in 1986, but the Thunder bird lives on in its original condition in my brothers garage back in New England.

Snow plows go by in the night; Seth's suit; recall Ford Escape hybrid

Dear Internet,
I have been trying to quit smoking. I smoke 0-3 cigarettes a day. Some days I use the patch, but it seems I'm always going through nicotine withdrawal. I quit entirely for 25 years. When I pick it back up, it is off 6 month on 6 months 1 or 2 a day. Generally, I feel better when I don't smoke or use tobacco. But it does ratchet up my irritability and i save that for deserving ( or undeserving politicians or business hard heads.

It has been snowing for two days and I am pretty happy about that. I am loving driving on snow packed roads with my new studded snow tires on my hybrid Ford Escape. Although, the government should force a recall on my vehicle. The brakes haven't worked properly since I bought the SUV in 2006. They are spongy, don't stop very well, always have sensors or parts breaking and the hybrid electric system is by Toyota. I have also heard from other Escape hybrid owners who say the same. Some one of you might pass this on to DOT .

Isolation and loneliness plague many of us , even when we are in a crowd or with friends. The missing ingredient is intimacy.

My friend Seth has hired two law firms; one to defend him from criminal prosecution for speaking his mind last week at the boulder city council. the other is for a civil rights suit against my city for first amendment violations at the same council meeting. It needed to be done. Our local city council has been way out of control for the past 5 years. this will help vindicate all of us who has had our rights violated by local government and the University. I speak of Seth , rob Smoke, Ward Churchill, myself, Max Karston and more. It's about time. Congrats to the Daily Camera, Westword and the Denver post for finally coming on board to the first amendment.....well no that you're all nearly broke..

And our desperate city council members.....what have they done? First of all council should realize, that they are never going to win with Seth Brigham: they took away his civil rights over public access TV, called him a terrorist, and now had him arrested for speaking his mind: they should have learned from the disaster caused by the last two councils over this. Apparently not. Good luck, because now they have the Daily Camera, Colorado Daily, West Word and the Kansas City Star against them.....and if Ken Wilson isn't careful, he'll have the British Tabloids up our butt. ( Wilson deeply offended a British national in an email, telling her to mind her own business and stay in her own country. Problem is the unidentified lady is of diplomatic status.......so watch...here comes an international incident. Also, everyone dig deep. Estimates are that Seth will win over 1 million dollars.
